Vicon Software Release:  New Valerus VMS

New video management platform offers wider compatibility than predecessors

Valerus: The latest Vicon software product for video surveillance managementIn August, Vicon Industries (on the web at vicon-security.com) announced a campaign for its new next generation video management software, Vicon Valerus. Over the past two months, the new system has slowly been revealed to the public, highlighting priorities not emphasized in the ViconNet platform that preceded it.

Valerus is 100% Vicon software, a unique and cost-effective product in the Vicon tradition, developed from the ground up.  Like ViconNet before it, Valerus shows that Vicon prioritizes ease-of-use, through a simple, web-based interface.

What’s new is a focus on standards-based true open platform compatibility with other products.  While ViconNet has been stable, it has not supported many third-party cameras throughout its history.  The new Vicon software platform is headed in a different direction entirely.

Vicon Industries is based in Hauppauge, New York, and has been a video surveillance equipment and software systems manufacturer since 1967.  The company added the VAX line of access control two years ago, with the intent of offering a complete end-to-end product suite.  The marketing collateral for the Valerus VMS makes the new system’s built-in integration with VAX access system very clear, and underlines the capability of the two systems to work together in forensic applications.

Current users of the ViconNet platform are advised that they will not be forced to make a major unplanned change at this time, but chances are good that ViconNet will reach an “end-of-support” point over the next several years, and the Valerus VMS will become the standard.  PSX encourages clients to engage their account managers for help in evaluating their long-term plans to ensure that these transitions are no more disruptive than when a new version of the Windows operating system is rolled out.
